Experience a sound bath with Angela Hunt

Experience a sound bath, Saturday, Jan. 31, from 3 - 4 p.m., at the First Universalist Church in Rockland, 345 Broadway. Angela Hunt, a sound practitioner, will use crystal singing bowls to produce sound that helps to reduce stress and tension in the body, move emotions and connect to spirit.

On Tuesday, Feb. 17, at noon, Belfast Garden Club volunteers will speak in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library about planning and maintaining the public gardens "that help to make Belfast the beautiful little city that it is," said the Club, in a news release.

The program is free and open to the public.

In Story as Medicine, Carver invites participants to explore the stories they tell — about themselves, their past, and what they believe is possible — and how those stories quietly shape the way they live.

Join Coastal Mountains Land Trust and Maine Health’s Community Health program for a Happy Wanderers Hike, Thursday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m., at the Long Cove Preserve in Searsport. This preserve features 2.4 miles of moderate hiking on a loop trail with multiple habitat types hosting an abundance of wildlife, according to CMLT, in a news release.

BELFAST — MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo hospitals will hold a community town hall Monday, Feb. 9, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., at the Belfast Free Library, 106 High Street in Belfast. The event is free and open to the public.

At the event, hospital leaders will share updates about new and emerging services, sustainability efforts, key community health initiatives and more. Community members will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversation.

The James Beard Foundation announced Jan. 21 its 2026 Restaurant and Chef Awards semifinalists. Among them is Sara Jenkins, owner and chef of Nina June, in Rockport.

Good Tern Co-op offers Winter Herbal Remedies workshop

Clinical Herbalist Amie Daniels will lead a workshop in Winter Herbal Remedies on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., at Hole In The Wall Bagels, 754 Main Street, Rockland.

This workshop will highlight different medicinal herbs as well as types of preparations to use for cold and flu season. Daniels will discuss which herbs are appropriate for certain symptoms, and participants will receive recipes for herbal remedies.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension will host a webinar focused on identifying and managing weeds in greenhouse ornamental production, Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. 

“Effective Weed Management in Greenhouse Ornamentals” will be led by Manjot Sidhu, assistant Extension professor of horticulture and ornamental horticulture specialist at UMaine.

Full Moon Hike at Beech Hill Preserve

Join Coastal Mountains Land Trust and Maine Health’s Community Health Program on Saturday, January 31, for a full moon hike to the summit of Beech Hill. The group will meet at 5 p.m., at the Beech Hill Road trailhead and walk up together as the full moon rises. The trail is about 0.6 miles on a farm road with a gentle, but steady incline. On top of the hill, the historic Beech Nut will be open, and the fireplace will be lit. All are welcome.

BELFAST—If you've ever strolled around the bustling United Farmers Market of Maine in Belfast and came across Claire Fuller's 'Glo's Carinderia' Filipino food stand and enjoyed her lumpia (similar to spring rolls) and other Filipino hot dishes, now you can try to make some of these recipes on your own.

Her new market, an Asian and specialty store called Glo's Market, opened in early December in Belfast at 382C Starret Drive (next to Foster's Pets store) as an offshoot retail location of her food stand.

The Peace and Justice Group of Waldo County will gather for a Circle of Resistance on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m., at the Belfast Free Library.

"Come share our commitment to stand with all who are suffering from US Imperialism both inside and outside our country – from Palestine to Minnesota, Chicago, Venezuela, Cuba, Greenland and more," said Peace and Justice, in a news release.

Commemorative walk to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recognition Day

The 37th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recognition Day will be celebrated on SUNDAY, January 18, 2026.

The event will start at 3 p.m. with a commemorative Walk from the Post Office to the Unitarian Universalist (UU) Church of Belfast on Miller Street, followed by a program from approximately 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

"What’s all this fuss about fermented foods?" said Rockland Public Library, in a news release. "Why are fermented foods essential for gut health, and why are they so expensive?"

RPL will host "Vegetable Fermentation for Gut Health: A Class with Mo Katz-Christy," Thursday, Jan. 22, at 6 p.m.

Joint Five Town CSD and Camden-Rockport school board meeting Friday afternoon for superintendent hiring process

The Five Town CSD Board of Directors, which governs Camden Hills Regional High School, and the Camden-Rockport School Board (K-8) will meet at 4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 9, in executive session to clarify the process for hiring a new superintendent.

The meeting will be held via Zoom.

Tracking series with Coastal Mountains Land Trust

Join Coastal Mountains Land Trust for the first workshop of a two-part tracking series, Saturday, Jan. 17, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., at the Fernalds Neck Preserve in Lincolnville. 

This hiking excursion is being led by expert tracker Meg Selkie, who has extensive experience guiding participants in understanding who has been inhabiting the forest, what food sources they have been relying on and how recently they left behind their “sign”, according to CMLT, in a news release.  

Elizabeth Wilson elected to membership in Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi

Elizabeth Wilson of Camden, has been elected to membership into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest all-discipline collegiate honor society, at the Ohio State University.

Wilson is among approximately 20,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.

Alyssa Bland named to Lasell University Fall 2025 Dean's List

Alyssa Bland, a Lasell University student from Camden, was named to the Lasell University Dean's List for her academic performance in the Fall 2025 semester.

To be named to the Dean's List, Lasell students must complete at least 12 credits as a full-time student and achieve a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.
