On Sunday, April 26 at 1 p.m., entomologist Gabriel LeMay will lead a walk in Belfast City Park, focusing on how to spot signs of infestation and insect damage in common trees. The event, sponsored by the Belfast Garden Club and its Tree Working Group, will begin at the gate to the park on Northport Avenue, and is free and open to the public.

Spring volunteer trail work day at River Link Trail, Schmid Preserve

Boothbay Region Land Trust, Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust, and The Schmid Preserve are planning a spring volunteer trail work morning on Sunday, May 3, at 9 a.m., to focus on the seven mile long River Link Trail and general trail clean-up in the Schmid Preserve. 

There will be three groups to work on the following sections:

-McKay to Zak Preserve will meet at the McKay Road parking area at 9 a.m.

-CRCT will meet at the River Road parking area across the road from Dodge Point.

-Schmid people will meet at the Old County Road gate.

Five Town Little League (FTLL) is deepening its partnership with Camden Hills Regional High School through a combined $1,500 contribution supporting both baseball and softball programs, reinforcing a growing collaboration that benefits student-athletes across multiple age groups, according to an April 13 news release from FTLL.

John Fromer, Merryspring program director, will lead a walk to the vernal pool at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, April 28, at 12 p.m.  

See and examine wood frog and spotted salamander eggs under hand lenses (supplied) or on an iPad connected to a microscope on site. Learn about the importance of vernal pools in their early development.

"Spring is an amazing time in the amphibian world – now is the time when frogs and salamanders are migrating from their wintertime woodland hideouts to vernal pools," said Georges River Land Trust, in a news release.

Join GRLT for a vernal pool program at the Rockland Bog on Sunday, May 3, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Vernal pools are special, ephemeral bodies of water where frogs, salamanders, and insects breed.

"On this guided exploration, participants will learn about these incredible, small creatures and get up close to their pools," said GRLT.

“Maine Ideas” will focus on finding practical, actionable solutions to common workforce challenges at Maine companies of all sizes," said host Dan Belyea, the chief workforce development officer at the Maine Community College System (MCCS), in a news release.
