ORONO — Students and alumni will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from more than 150 companies and organizations during the University of Maine’s 2025 Engineering and Computing Job Fair, Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the New Balance Student Recreation Center.

Join Maine Health’s Community Health program and Coastal Mountains Land Trust for a Happy Wanderers Hike on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m., at the Fernalds Neck Preserve. 

This is a moderate 3.1-mile loop, which includes hemlock groves, glacial erratics, stands of mature pines. This preserve is known to provide a plethora of mushrooms, at this time of year. If some participants feel like a shorter hike, there will be an opportunity to make this hike a 2-mile loop.

Full Moon Walk with Georges River Land Trust

Join Georges River Land Trust for a special full moon walk, Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 4:30 - 6 p.m., at Riverview Hayfields Preserve, in South Thomaston.

Participants should meet the Land Trust in the parking lot at 4:30 p.m. to walk 0.4-miles to the gazebo where hot tea will be served and beautiful views of the moon on the river can be seen, according to GRLT. Those who come later should feel free to walk the trail to the gazebo to meet the group.

Headlamps or flashlights are recommended. Dress warmly and wear good walking shoes.

“Restaurants and Food Vendors Work Sustainably”, the third of four presentations in an informational series entitled “Wasted Food: Challenges and Community Solutions”, will be offered on Tuesday, October 28, noon to 2 p.m. at Nativity Lutheran Church, 179 Old County Road, in Rockport. 

This presentation features Chef/owner Melody Wolfertz of In Good Company restaurant, Rockland Hannaford manager Kristin White, and Membership and Outreach Coordinator Elissa Bower of the Good Tern Co-op and Hole in the Wall Bagels.

Thomaston’s Fall Festival returns October 25

THOMASTON — The Town of Thomaston invites the community to celebrate the season at the annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 12 to 6 p.m., located behind the block at 13 Valley Street. Free public parking will be available behind the nearby business block.

Dress up the family (don’t forget the dog!) and stroll the street at the final Sunday Stroll of 2025 on October 19, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., on Main Street in Rockland.

With a Fall theme, there will be trick or treating in downtown businesses and on the street at vendors’ booths, costume contests for kids and adults, apple cider pressing, a beer garden, even witches dancing from the Merkaba Sol Dancing Witches group.

Take your picture in front of the fall harvest themed background, play “yard” games and draw chalk jack-o-lanterns on the street.

A Repair Cafe will be held Saturday, October 18, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., at the Waldo YMCA in Belfast. This is a free event.

"Don’t live in the dark," said Belfast Community Works. "We can fix your broken lamps. Bring us your vacuum or small appliances. How about a blender or sewing machine? Clothes got holes? Keep wearing your favorite sweater or pants. Need a button? Have a zipper that sticks? Come by, see, learn and have some fun!"

Maine Master Naturalist and artist Sherrie York will lead a free workshop in two locations to jumpstart nature journaling.

Have you always wanted to keep a nature journal, but didn’t know where to start? Maybe you’re looking for some inspiration to reinvigorate your practice, to learn or improve some sketching skills, or maybe just to make some time to sit and enjoy the outdoors. Grab your sketchbook and join Georges River Land Trust. The workshops will be held on the trust’s conserved properties.

The Waldo County YMCA, in partnership with Maine Families of Waldo County and CDC Public Health Nursing, announces a new program designed to support new and expecting parents: Bumps & Babies, a community-driven support group for parents and caregivers of infants, toddlers, and young children. 

The group will meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the Waldo County YMCA, 157 Lincolnville Ave, Belfast.

The Knox Clinic will host a Free Car Seat Safety Check event Saturday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the clinic’s back parking lot at 22 White Street in Rockland. Families are invited to stop by for a professional safety check with Jess Bowen, RN, who is state-certified to ensure car seats are safely and securely installed.

In addition to the safety checks, children will be able to enjoy free pumpkin painting, making the event both fun and practical for families, according to Knox Clinic.
