The Town of Brooks will hold a special Memorial Day event on May 25, 2026, at 2 p.m., at Wentworth’s General Store, in Brooks.

November 25, 1940 Robert P. Grant, 21 years old from Brooks, enlisted in the US Army Air Force and was trained as an aircraft gunner. In 1941, he sailed to the Philippines with the Headquarters 27th Bombardment Group. Robert Grant made the Bataan Death March and died of malaria as a prisoner of war.

Friday, May 22, Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) invites the public for a guided bird walk with MCHT steward and naturalist Kirk Gentalen, at Erickson Fields Preserve, located at 164 West Street in Rockport. From 8 to 10 a.m., Gentalen will lead a group around MCHT’s Teen Ag garden and through the woods, teaching how to identify birds by sight and sounds, and discover what other creatures inhabit the preserve.

Waldo County Technical Center to hold 2026 Senior Recognition Night

The Waldo County Technical Center community will gather on Wednesday, May 27, at 6 p.m., for its annual Senior Recognition Night, honoring graduating seniors and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) students for their accomplishments during the 2025–2026 school year. The celebration will be hosted at The Crosby Center in downtown Belfast. Seniors are asked to arrive by 5:30 p.m.

Tickets launched this past Monday for Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens’ annual Maine Days. From Friday, May 29, through Sunday, May 31, Mainers can bring up to eight guests per household. After a long winter, the Gardens provides a perfect family-friendly retreat. Enjoy acres of botanical delights, miles of hiking trails, the ever-popular giant trolls, and returning again this year, The Caterpillar Lab—a living caterpillar exhibit will be open all three days in the Education Center.

Camden Hills Regional High School’s Annual Plant Sale, May 16 and 17

Spring is springing, and plants are growing in the greenhouse at Camden Hills Regional High School. All gardeners are invited to visit the school's Annual Plant Sale this coming weekend, May 16 and 17.

There will be vegetable and herb seedlings, and a variety of annuals and perennial flowers.

Student growers have been tending some new varieties and many of the most popular varieties from the past.

The Eureka Masonic Lodge, at 4 Watts Avenue, Tenants Harbor, will host its annual Memorial Day Community Pancake Breakfast on Monday, May 25, from 7 to 9 a.m.

The menu includes pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, donuts, coffee and orange juice. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

The Cushing Community School is gearing up for its 5th annual Little Sprouts plant, seedling, and bake sale on Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., rain or shine, at Langlais Art Preserve, 576 River Road, in Cushing. 

This fundraiser is a collaborative effort of the school community, the local farm community, and the Georges River Land Trust, who will again host the event.

SOUTH THOMASTON — "Summer marks the return of the bobolinks, who are known not only for their truly impressive migration, but their unique song," said Georges River Land Trust, in a news release. 

Learn more about these birds at Breakfast and Bobolinks, hosted by Georges River Land Trust, Saturday, June 6, from 8 - 10 a.m., at Riverview Hayfields Preserve in South Thomaston. The preserve is home to several pairs of breeding bobolinks, who rely on the grassland habitats found at places like Riverview Hayfields, according to GRLT.

RESCHEDULED: 2026 Bike to Work and School Day in Rockland

Due to the weather forecast, the City of Rockland’s annual Bike to Work + School Day will be moved to Monday, June 1,from 7 to 8:30 a.m., according to the City, in a May 13, 2026 news release. The event was initially scheduled for Friday, May 15.

The City of Rockland hosts its annual Bike to Work and School Day at Chapman Park, on the corner of Park and Main streets. Community members are invited to pedal over for free coffee, breakfast snacks, and a morning of fun on bikes.

The first graduating class of 1899 had only seven students, according to Pam Tibbetts, in a news release. As the class sizes grew, it was decided to build the Camden High School on Knowlton Street in 1904 on four and one-half acres of land for $20,000.

An addition was built in front of the old high school in 1956. It served as Camden High School until Camden-Rockport became a district and the last Camden High School Class graduated in 1965. The CR classes of 66, 67 & 68 also attended Camden High.

BELFAST — Maine Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMS-C) has recognized MaineHealth Waldo Hospital for its readiness to care for pediatric patients, awarding the hospital the Pediatric Innovator designation in June 2025—the highest recognition offered by the Always Ready for Children (ARC) program, according to MaineHealth, in a news release.

The staff and board of AIO invite the community to visit AIO on Tuesday, May 19, from 4 - 6 p.m., for their annual Open House. The event will take place rain or shine at AIO, 1A Gordon Drive. All are welcome.

The Open House will provide visitors the opportunity to learn about AIO’s six core programs, which will have demonstration stations staffed by volunteers explaining each program.

The Rockland Fire Department will host an Open House on Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to Noon, at the Rockland firehouse, 118 Park Street.

"All are invited to the Rockland Firehouse for an open house event," said the City of Rockland, in a news release.

This will be an opportunity to meet with Rockland firefighters, tour the firehouse, and discover how the Rockland Fire Department works to keep everyone safe.

A May "Repair Cafe" will be held Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., at the Waldo YMCA, in Belfast. This is a free event.

"Don’t live in the dark," said Belfast Community Works, in a news release. "We can fix your broken lamps. Bring us your vacuum or small appliances. How about a blender or sewing machine? Clothes got holes? Keep wearing your favorite sweater or pants. Need a button? Have a zipper that sticks? Come by, see, learn and have some fun."

The Rockland Community and Resource Center (CRC), located at the Flanagan Center, at 61 Limerock Street, invites the public to celebrate its Grand Opening and Open House on Friday, May 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Community members are invited to tour the space, meet volunteers, and learn about the programs and services the CRC will offer. A special presentation about the CRC will take place at noon. Free roundtrip door-to-door rides will be offered by Flagship Taxi for those age 65 and older.
