Rosie Batty will talk about turning unimaginable grief into rallying a country to change its perception and laws around domestic abuse in the online Finding Our Voices Book Club on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m.

When Batty's 11-year-old son Luke tragically lost his life at the hands of his father at a public youth sporting match in 2014, Rosie Batty was catapulted into the media spotlight. 

"With fierce determination and incredible courage, she channelled her grief into a tireless and inspirational crusade against domestic violence, bringing domestic abuse to the forefront of the national agenda, and leading to changes in the system," said an FOV news release.

She was named Australian of the Year in 2015.

Batty's bestselling 2014 memoir A Mother's Story explores her early life in the UK, the years of family violence and control she suffered under her partner despite restraining orders, and her journey after the tragedy. In the 2024 follow-up, Hope, Batty explores what happened the day after the worst day of her life, detailing how she navigated deep trauma, anxiety, PTSD, and grief to slowly reclaim hope.

Topics of discussion will include the similarities and differences between Maine and Australia with domestic violence attitudes and laws.
