Camden talk: Understanding power outages

(Photo courtesy Camden/Rockport Energy Program)On Thursday, September 10, at 6:30 p.m., a “Camden Talks Climate” presentation at the Camden Public Library and on Zoom will explore what happens locally when the power goes out.
As weather grows more extreme in a changing climate, power outages are increasing. Learn about how the electric transmission and distribution system works, what to do if you encounter downed wires, how to prepare for outages, and how emergency managers and utilities coordinate to identify where outages are and to respond.
Fred LaMontagne, senior manager of emergency management and operations for Avangrid/Central Maine Power, and Candice Richards, director of the Knox County Emergency Management Agency, will explain the mechanics of outage responses and answer audience questions. The presentation is cohosted by CamdenCAN, the Camden Public Library and Camden/Rockport Energy Coaching.
