Join the Thomaston Historical Society on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m., at Thomaston Federated Church, "for a fascinating look at one of the town's most remarkable native sons," said the Historical Society, in a news release.

Charles Ranlett Flint grew up on the shores of the St. George River, the son of Thomaston shipbuilder Benjamin Flint, before going on to become one of the most influential industrialists of his era. Known as "the father of trusts" for engineering major industrial consolidations, Flint founded the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company in 1911, the company that would become IBM. His extraordinary life also included negotiating the Wright brothers' first overseas airplane sale, holding the world water speed record, and meeting personally with the Russian Czar.

Presenter Bill Gay, Vice President of the Thomaston Historical Society, will share this story of industry, innovation and enterprise.
