The Rockland Public Library will screen the documentary How to Build a Library, on Sept. 10, at 6 p.m.
Directed by Maia Lekow and Christopher King, this POV/PBS film highlights Angela Wachuka and Shiro Koinange, two Nairobi women who transform a former whites-only building into a library and community hub; all while facing Kenya’s colonial past. Along the way, they must navigate local politics and raise millions to sustain the project.
Themes of the movie include decolonization and representation, community and cultural renewal, as well as friendship and collaboration.
All are welcome to attend.
The Rockland Public Library is located at 80 Union Street in Rockland.
