WALDOBORO — Scott Aaron White, 58, of Waldoboro, passed away peacefully on August 26 surrounded by his family. He rests victoriously after repeatedly beating expectations from a rare form of brain cancer. 

Scott was born in Vinalhaven on December 6, 1967, raised in Waldoboro, and never stopped moving. He spent his childhood and adolescence biking to adventures with friends, raking blueberries and painting houses across the midcoast, helping his father grade schoolwork, and sharpening his skills on the basketball court. His love for family and competition was born early, sparked especially by “cutthroat” nightly Jeopardy contests with his parents and siblings during supper.

After graduating from Medomak Valley High School in 1986 as a science fair winner with multiple game-winning buzzer-beaters to his name, Scott attended the University of Maine at Farmington to study community and school health and play basketball. Later in his career he also earned his Master of Education degree from the University of Maine. Between his time at A.D. Gray Middle School – where he met the love of his life and anchor, Carrie – D.R. Gaul Middle School, Warsaw Middle School, South Bristol Elementary School, and Union Elementary School, Scott served as a beloved teacher, coach, athletic director, and principal.

Throughout his life, Scott was known for relentlessly working to benefit the people and places around him. He took immense pride in helping kids develop into ambitious and compassionate human beings, whether those lessons took place in the classroom or on the hardwood. During academic breaks, Scott’s efforts with the paintbrush preserved the character of the community while providing additional support for his family. And through it all, he still made time to be present with the people he loved.

Scott and his family have been overwhelmed with gratitude by the love and support received from the community since his diagnosis. 

Scott is survived by his wife, Carrie, of Waldoboro; and children Patrick, of Washington, D.C., Maddy, of Mechanic Falls, Grace, of Scarborough, and Gavin, of Waldoboro. He is also survived by his father, Walter, of Waldoboro; brother, Dana; sister, Kelley Paradis; and scores of other family and friends he constantly made and recounted memories with.

He was predeceased by his mother, Janice, of Waldoboro.

A celebration of life will be held September 5, at 11 a.m., at Medomak Valley High School, with a reception to immediately follow.
