PRESCOTT, Arizona — Mary Ann “Mickey” (Brown) McKeever, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, musician, educator, nurse, volunteer, and faithful friend, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, in Prescott, Arizona, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Mary was the daughter of George McKeever and Lestina Alice Libby McKeever. She graduated from The Girls’ High School of Greater Boston in 1952 and married Alan Walter Brown in 1953. They later divorced in 1970. Raising her children would become the greatest joy of her life.

Mary believed deeply that learning never ends. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Political Science from the University of Maine at Orono in 1975 before returning to school to fulfill another dream, graduating as a Registered Nurse from the University of Maine at Augusta in 1977. Her lifelong curiosity also led her to complete four years of Comparative Religions studies through the University of the South and later the Episcopal Education for Ministry program.

Mary lived in Hope, Maine, where she and her family owned and operated Brown’s General Store. There she became the heart of the community, serving as both Postmaster and store clerk. Customers came not only for groceries or mail but also for conversation and friendship. Behind the scenes, her four children pitched in wherever they could, making the store a true family endeavor. While managing the store and raising her children, Mary somehow found the time to earn both her college degree and her nursing credentials.

Faith shaped every chapter of Mary’s life. For more than fifty years she was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Camden, serving as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, and member of the Education Committee. Later, at the Federated Church in Thomaston, she served as a Deacon, Outreach Committee member, church secretary, public relations volunteer, photographer, and tireless advocate for the church’s ministries.

Music was one of Mary’s greatest gifts. She sang in church choirs throughout her life, performed with the Mid-Coast Community Chorus, participated in numerous Camden Civic Theatre productions, and loved every opportunity to share music with others. Whether performing on stage or singing for charitable events, she brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to hear her voice.

Mary also loved adventure. After retiring at age 61, she embraced life with characteristic enthusiasm—swimming, kayaking, biking, cross-country skiing, traveling throughout the United States, and visiting Ireland in search of her family roots. She cherished her swimming friends, enjoyed knitting hats and mittens for Head Start children, and treasured afternoons with the Knit-Wits at the Rockland Community Center.

In 2014 Mary moved to live with her daughter Maureen and her husband Scott in Prescott, Arizona. She continued to be an avid reader, and enjoyed bird watching, swimming and taking walks when she was able.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Marcia; and her sisters Florence, Esther, Lestina, and Alice.

She is lovingly survived by her twin sons, Matthew (Alanna) and Michael (Wendy); her daughter Maureen (Scott ) of Prescott, Arizona; grandchildren Thomas, Travis, Reuben, McKenzie, Autumn and Caitlin; great-grandchildren Tristan, Madden, Harper, Beckham, Morgan, and Luna, with many cherished nieces and nephews, and countless lifelong friends .

As per her wishes, Mary was cremated. A family burial will take place in the summer of 2027.
