ROCKPORT — Camden Hills Regional High School social studies teacher Trevor Paul kicks off this year’s Community Events Series, exploring recent changes in China’s education policies and what they may reveal about the country’s future. Paul will speak at the Rockport Public Library on Sept. 16, from 6 to 7 p.m.

 

From 2011 to 2013, Paul lived and worked in Tianjin, China, gaining firsthand insight into the country’s public and private schools. He has since consulted on U.S.-China school partnerships and led student trips to China, according to the Conference, in a news release. Drawing on that experience, Paul will unpack the realities — and misconceptions — surrounding Chinese education today.

 

Paul currently teaches Chinese Studies at CHRHS, a course designed to introduce students to modern Chinese culture and history and to foster curiosity about China’s people and its place in the world. He also teaches English and coaches ice hockey at the school. Beyond the classroom, he has lived in Germany and spent a decade teaching at Hebron Academy before moving to the Midcoast with his wife and son. In his free time, he writes fantasy novels and short stories.
