Alonzo R. Dorr Sr., obituary
ROCKLAND — Alonzo R. Dorr Sr., affectionately known as Al or Lonnie, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on September 6, 2026. He was 87.
Born on May 4, 1939, in Harrington, Maine, he was the son of Warren K. and Lucretia Mae Crocker Dorr. He graduated from Rockland High School in 1958 and married the love of his life, Judy Ann Davis, on June 21, 1957. Together they shared 69 years of love, laughter, and devotion.
Al was known for his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. From his early years as a lobsterman on Criehaven to earning his Master Plumber's License and building successful businesses in Massachusetts and Maine, he dedicated himself to providing for his family. He later retired in 2001.
When he wasn't working, Al could often be found outdoors. He enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, hunting, golfing, and traveling with Judy. One of his proudest accomplishments was building the family cottage on South Pond in Warren, affectionately known as the "Loony Bin," where many treasured memories were made.
Al will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, and deep love for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, Grampa, and friend who touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Deanna Bahre; son Alonzo "Lonnie" Dorr Jr.; brothers, Warren E. Dorr and Clayton Dorr; sister Marie Thurston; son-in-law Peter Murphy; and grandson Jeffrey Dorr Jr.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Dorr of Rockland; daughters, Debora Murphy of Friendship and Lucretia Prematta of Jacksonville, Florida; son Jeffrey Dorr Sr. and his wife Victoria of Jacksonville, Florida; sisters Beverly Crain of Coral Springs, Florida, and Rebecca "Becky" Gamage and her husband Bruce of Union; sisters-in-law, Barbara Dorr of Rockland and Janice Dorr of Thomaston; 15 grandchildren; many great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a large, loving extended family.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A celebration of his life will follow at noon, with interment at South Parish Cemetery in Tenants Harbor.
