WALDOBORO — On the evening of Thursday, September 10, 2026, Tom Pluecker passed away peacefully at the Sussman House in Rockport, Maine, surrounded by his beloved family. 

Born in Houston, Texas on September 16, 1939, Tom grew up in the East End on Lawson Street in a home built in the 1920s by his parents, Angus Remely Pluecker and Hertha Emily Pfeiffer. His father had moved from Nacogdoches and his mother from Maxwell to make their lives in the city.

Tom graduated from St. Thomas High School and finished a degree at the University of Houston after attending for twelve years. He was quietly involved in support roles in numerous activist and organizing initiatives at the time, while also participating in art and music scenes.

In 1971, he married his wife, Claire Donohue Pluecker, in Houston; they initially lived in his family home in the East End. After the births of their two children in the late 1970s, they moved to Washington DC, as the computer company where Tom was working moved to the capitol. Soon after that, Tom and Claire purchased a small computer networking and repair services company and worked together to sustain and grow it over many years. They sold the business in 2002 and moved to Waldoboro, Maine in 2006 to be closer to their beloved grandchildren, Elias and Cecilia Jane.

Throughout Tom’s life, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He took great joy in gardening, fruit trees, airplanes, and classic cars. Tom smiled freely and showed his love without hesitation.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Barbara Dielmann and Kathleen Lazar.

He is survived by his wife, Claire; his son, Bill Pluecker and partner Chloe Maxmin; and his daughter, Jadine Pluecker and her partner Andrzej Baginski; as well as his grandchildren, Elias, Cecilia Jane and Elena. In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Laurie Davies, Barbara Ann Dielmann, and Leo Dielmann.

A memorial service will be held January 16 at the First Universalist Church in Rockland. You can contact the church for more information on timing. A service will also be held in Houston, Texas in March 2027.
