Medomak 8th softball tops Oceanside in Busline action

WALDOBORO — In a Busline League showdown Thursday, May 6 in Waldoboro, the Medomak eighth grade softball team earned a dominating victory at home against Oceanside. 

The host Riverhawks were able to overpower the Mariners defensively to collect a 15-1 victory. 

After each inning, Medomak Valley held advantages of 5-0, 6-1, 9-1, 15-1 and 15-1. 

The contest began with a trio of strikeouts for Medomak defensively, with Kytana Williamson pitching, before Williamson and Audrey Jackson each singled. Skylar Hills drove both runners in with a double. Erica Waite reached base on a walk with the bases loaded, and Maddy Wilshire reached base on a fielder’s choice. 

In the second inning, Morrison whacked a double for Oceanside to begin the inning and managed to steal her way around the bases to score the lone Oceanside run as Williamson fanned the next three batters. 

With Williamson reaching on a walk to start the second inning, Jackson singled before Young drove Williamson in on a fielder’s choice to put the Riverhawks up 6-1. 

In the third, Oceanside’s three batters were consecutively fanned by Williamson. 

Lilly Christ singled to begin the frame for Medomak, Emma Haney walked and Waite singled to drive both home. Williamson drove in a run, Jackson walked, and Young tallied another run for the Riverhawks to make it a 9-1 contest. 

In the fourth inning, the three Mariners at the plate were all retired by the Medomak defense. 

Waite singled with the bases loaded to drive in a pair of runs. Williamson reached base on a dropped third strike and worked her way around the diamond stealing bases to eventually score. Jackson singled, Young drove in a run and Skylar Hills collected a RBI single to make it a 15-1 contest. 

Oceanside’s three batters in the fifth inning were each retired to end the contest. 

The final offensive statistics for Medomak were: Williamson (single, walk, RBI), Jackson (three singles, walk), Young (walk, three RBI), Hills (double, single, three RBI), Harvey (two walks), Christ (two walks), Seavey (walk), Haney (walk, hit-by-pitch), Waite (single, hit-by-pitch). 

The final offensive statistic for Oceanside was: Morrison (double). A first name was not available at publishing time. 

Defensively, Williamson recorded 12 strikeouts for Medomak in the pitcher’s circle while allowing a run and a hit. 

The next contest for Oceanside will be held Tuesday, May 11 at home against Searsport at 3:45 p.m.
