Linda Dean, obituary
UNION — With a heavy heart, we share the news of Linda Dean’s passing on September 27, 2025, at the age of 74. She was born to Clifford and Eleanor (Sylvester) Achorn on August 29, 1951 in Rockland, Maine. She attended Rockland schools graduating from Rockland District High School in 1969.
Linda married Lanson (Lanny) Dean in July of 1970. She loved living on Coggan Hill in Union for the next 55 years and served her community faithfully.
Linda had a curious nature and was always open to learn something new. Her kindness led her to offer a helping hand and she did so joyfully. Linda supported her husband with his farming adventures, whether it be growing strawberries, chasing cows and sheep or haying, cutting wood, and other related farming responsibilities. She was most happy raising dogs, Dalmatians and Boston Terriers, especially her beloved Lucy. This love of animals led her to work for a local veterinarian and a pet grooming business. She was a highly respected dog handler for kennel clubs and dog shows, locally and statewide. Linda was also very involved with the community of model horse collectors and attended model horse conventions all over New England.
She loved activities that involved dancing, especially clogging and line dancing. She was an integral part of the Silver Fox Dance Club in Augusta. Linda’s enthusiastic leadership made her beloved by a local group of line dancers who met weekly under her tutelage.
Linda enjoyed growing flowers and sharing bouquets with friends and neighbors. Lanny’s passion for woodworking led Linda to learn a variety of hand crafts, especially felting and jewelry making. Her creations were on display in the Exhibitions Halls at local fairs.
She loved to attend Broadway musical productions at local high schools, community theaters, and especially at Maine State Music Theater in Brunswick, Maine. On her last evening Linda had the privilege of attending her “favorite musical group of all time,” the Kingston Trio.
Linda was predeceased by her parents; brother Carl Achorn; sister Sally Brewster, and an infant child, Andrew.
She is survived by her husband, Lanny; her daughter Lisa Gove (Jeff) of Stonington; Lanny’s brothers Milton Dean (Cheryl) of Florida and Maynard Dean (Diane) of Louisiana; Lanny’s sister Robin Pinkham (Chris) of Bangor; and several nieces and nephews.
She will be fondly remembered by her many dear friends for her humility, her sense of humor and her caring nature.
There will be a celebration of her life Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 1 p.m., at The Old Town House, 128 Town House Road (Rt. 235), Union, Maine.
