Makeshift memorial for Brayden draws heartfelt messages
ROCKLAND — Letters, pictures, love and heartache now stand at the crosswalk on Broadway at Eliza Steele Drive, in a memorial to Brayden Callahan, the boy who succumbed to injuries after being struck by a school bus Friday afternoon.
Many of Callahan's family, friends, and members of the public have already signed a board that was constructed today, Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025 at the location. Many more have left flowers, toys, and stuffed animals at the base.
One message describe's the reactions of hearing the news: "Every single person's face went pale. They cried for hours."
A marker remains attached to the makeshift memorial for anyone else to express their grief. The family asks that the plastic covering be repositioned afterwards as a way to protect against the elements.
Tears are being slowly replaced by action, purpose, and continuing Brayden's name. Future events for Brayden will include an organized burnout (making skid marks that leave a burning smell), which was a favorite of Brayden. The family is also considering a bike run (motorcycles) for next June. Any proceeds will be donated in support of children's education, according to one of the family members.
