Travel talk about Malaga, Spain at Rockland library
Event Date
Thursday, March 12, 2026 - 06:30 pmJoin Penobscot Bay Language School (PBLS) staff, volunteers, and recent travelers for an informative travel talk about Malaga, Spain, Thursday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m., in the Community Room at Rockland Public Library.
"This beautiful Mediterranean port city is known for its all-year sunny weather, gorgeous beaches, amazing food, archeological sites, and as the birthplace of Pablo Picasso," said a Rockland library news release.
Archeological remains in and around the historic city center date Spain’s oldest continuously working seaport thousands of years ago, when Phonecian merchants established the (then) westernmost trading post in the Mediterranean. Since its establishment, this port city has been occupied by Greek, Roman, Gothic, and Muslim civilizations. Visitors will find a recently excavated Roman amphitheater just below a one thousand year-old Moorish fortress and castle. The city also features the massive Cathedral of Malaga – a building whose presence is a testimony to the multicultural and shifting political and cultural paradigms of this amazing city, said the news release.
Penobscot Bay Language School has been guiding immersion language students to this city for the past three years. A partnership with sister school Instituto Picasso, located in the historic Plaza de la Merced, has been one of the ways in which the school has reinvigorated in-person language learning following the global pandemic, according to the release.
