Barn blaze draws mutual aid to Waldoboro for second structure fire in five hours
WALDOBORO — Firefighters opened at least one of the donated pizza boxes, Friday morning, just prior to 9 a.m., after the previously black smoke at their backs had turned to white.
The barn fire reported at approximately 7:05 a.m., at 2329 Friendship Road, in Waldoboro, was the second Waldoboro structure fire of the morning for the mutual aid companies, having first been called, Feb. 20, 2026, at approximately 2:40 a.m., to a mobile home fire at 801 North Nobleboro Road.
At the barn fire, in the daylight, a Maine DOT crew supervised a road closure at Finntown and Friendship roads, while just to the north, over a hill and out of sight, firefighters representing Waldoboro, Damariscotta, Jefferson, Nobleboro, Friendship, and Warren battled to prevent flames from consuming the house adjacent to the two-story barn. And then, around the time that a malfunction was noticed in a Jefferson tanker truck, a tanker truck each from Union and Cushing was requested as well.
Water supply teams set up near the bowling alley, 402 Friendship Road.
Cushing FD and Union FD left the scene, en route to their home stations, at approximately 12:30 p.m. Friendship and Warren FDs left at approximately 1:15 p.m.
