Event Date
Tuesday, April 28, 2026 - 06:00 pmOn Tuesday, April 28, at 6 p.m., the Belfast Garden Club’s Tree Working Group will host an informational program in celebration of Arbor Day. The program, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library. Light refreshments will be served.
The program will feature films, discussions, and an instruction on using MyTree, an application that calculates a tree’s size, age, and value.
"If you’ve ever wondered how much that towering oak in your yard adds to your property value, here’s your chance to find out," said the Garden Club, in a news release.
Arbor Day was first celebrated in the United States in the late 19th century to promote not only the planting of trees, but awareness of the need for managed forestry programs among the general public, according to BGC. President Theodore Roosevelt gave the first Arbor Day proclamation in 1907, emphasizing the importance of trees and the education of children about their value. Owing to the climate, the actual Arbor Day celebration varies by region. Arbor Day 2026 in Maine is on April 26.
