Sunday Tidbit: Leg Injury Healed

Isaiah 53:5 states that Christ was wounded for our transgressions and that by His stripes we are healed. This profound promise is echoed in 1 Peter 2:24. At Calvary, Christ paid for our transgressions, not only for spiritual healing but also for physical and emotional healing. I can testify to the grace of God’s healing power in my life.

In 1969-70, I served in Vietnam with Floyd Walker, a mono Indian. After returning to the United States, he invited me to stay with him on the reservation in Friant, California. We both purchased a Triumph 650cc motorcycle. There is nothing like the freedom of the open road.

One day, I decided to see how fast my bike could go. I had exceeded 80 mph when I noticed a truck parked sideways on the road. In front of the truck was a field with a barbed-wire fence. I had a choice. Hit the truck broadside or ram into the barbed-wire fence. I chose the truck.

Braking hard, I threw the bike down on its left side. Sliding sideways down the road with my left leg under the bike, I raised it upright just in time to hit the front bumper head-on. Spinning around the front of the truck, we came to a full stop. The front wheel, pressed against the engine, absorbed most of the impact, sparing me serious injury.

The driver asked, “Are you OK?” I said, “Yes, I think so, but could you give me a ride home?” “Where do you live?” he asked. I told him I lived on the Indian reservation. He effortlessly picked up the 363-pound bike and put it in the back of the truck. Later that evening, I went to the hospital. Because of the damage to my left leg, which had been dragged down the road under the bike, the doctor placed it in a cast. I stayed in bed for three days.

With my bike repaired, I took off the cast. By bending my left leg 90 degrees, I was able to sit on the bike. I hit the road again. Many years later, I began to limp slightly on my left side. Over time, the edge of my left foot began to roll outward and downward toward my little toe. This uneven pressure caused the outer edge of my shoe to become very lopsided.

Years later, I attended a home group. I was lying on my back on the floor, enjoying the presence of the Lord, when my left leg suddenly grew about 4 inches. It then returned to its original length, then shortened by a few inches. With my hip stationary, my right leg moved back and forth in the opposite direction. Eventually, my legs evened out. I was totally healed. I got up off the floor. Looking straight into the eyes of the man who had watched this miracle, I said, “The Lord did this for you!” Bewildered, he said, “Yes, I know!”

Do you need healing? Let’s pray. “Heavenly Father, I pray for the healing power of Christ to minister to you today. Be healed in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
