Man sentenced in federal court for pointing gun at Knox County Sheriff officer
PORTLAND — A New Hampshire man was sentenced May 19 in U.S. District Court in Portland for being a felon in possession of a firearm during an incident in South Thomaston in March 2025.
Chief U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker sentenced Dennis Duquette, 46, of Plaistow, N.H., to 12 months and one day in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Maine.
Duquette pleaded guilty on Jan. 16.
According to court records, on March 21, 2025, Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call at a residence on the Waterman's Beach Road in South Thomaston that a man had a gun and was threatening to shoot people. Deputies encountered Duquette outside the home with a 9 mm pistol in his hand. Duquette had pointed the gun at an officer, and eventually dropped the pistol after being ordered by police to drop the gun or he would be shot.
He eventually put down the gun, according to the affidavit.
A woman at the residence told police that Duquette had destroyed her room by punching holes in the wall. The woman said he assaulted her and knocked her to the ground, according to the affidavit filed in court by the Sheriff's Office.
The gun was later found to have been stolen, according to the police report. Duquette is prohibited from possessing firearms as a result of prior felony convictions.
He was subsequently taken into custody by the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
Duquette made his initial appearance in Knox County Court on March 24, 2025 where Judge Sarah Gilbert set his bail at $50,000 cash.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case with the assistance of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
