Flag Day tour of Revolutionary War Patriots in Thomaston Village Cemetery
Event Date
Sunday, June 14, 2026 - 02:00 pmAs a contribution to Maine’s celebration of the 250th year of American Independence, the Trustees of the Thomaston Village Cemetery along with the Thomaston Historical Society Board of Directors, invite all to attend a free cemetery tour on Flag Day, Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 2 p.m.
The tour, led by Thomaston Town Historian Peggy McCrea, starts at Avenue One running between Section One and Two near the brick vault on Erin Street. Parking is available along the sides of Erin and Dwight Streets.
Flag Day is a holiday celebrated throughout the United States. It commemorates the adoption of the flag by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777 at the time of the colonists’ fight for independence from British rule, according to the Trustees, in a news release. Fifteen Revolutionary War soldiers who answered the call for volunteers in support of this cause are buried in the Thomaston Village Cemetery.
“This seems a fitting day to recognize our town patriots’ service by providing a tour of their final resting place," said Ryan Fitzpatrick, Cemetery Trustee Chairman.
Volunteers representing a family member will stand graveside to provide a brief bio of each of these revered patriots.
"Please join us as we learn more about our town through the stories and stones of those who called Thomaston their home long before we arrived as we pay tribute to their bravery and belief in government by and for the people 250 years ago," said the Trustees.
