Andrew Ryan Cross, obituary
MORRILL — Andrew Ryan Cross, 27, passed away tragically on May 15, 2026, in brave service to others. He was born on September 21, 1998, to Donald and Laurie Cross of Morrill.
Andrew graduated from Belfast Area High School, where he was a member of the soccer and baseball teams, and National Honor Society. He went on to receive an A.S. degree in Mechanical Technology at Washington Community College, with certificates in Heavy Equipment Operation and as an Engine Specialist.
Andrew worked at Bath Iron Works as an Outside Machinist and would have celebrated his 7th anniversary there on May 20.
He owned his own business, A.R. Cross Trucking, where he did earthwork, plowing and mowing for people in the surrounding communities.
Andrew also worked for the town of Morrill plowing roads and was a firefighter for the Morrill Volunteer Fire Department. It was in this service that he made the ultimate sacrifice.
Andrew grew up in Morrill on land that has been in his family for generations, surrounded by a large loving family. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and snowmobiler.
Andrew treasured his time at camp in Bingham and Madagascal Pond, riding the snowmobile trails in northern Maine, and visiting family in Vermont. He recently purchased a home where he loved having family and friends gather for a big meal and share laughter and lots of stories.
He was always ready to give a helping hand to others, and he had a smile that instantly endeared him to everyone he met. There wasn’t an engine or motorized piece of equipment that Andrew and his father couldn’t get to work one way or another.
Andrew is survived by his loving parents, Donald and Laurie Cross; his adoring sisters, Whitney Cross and Lindsey Cross, and grandmother Beverly Young. He was very close to all of his uncles and aunts: Arthur and Catherine Cross, Randal and Amanda Cross, Dale and Stephanie Cross, Kevin Young, and Scott and Debra Young.
His extended family of cousins were like bonus brothers and sisters: Shannon and Tim Sommer and their children Siena, Elena, Olivia, and Easton; Caryn and Chris Coleman and their children Camilla, Quinn and Alcyone; Cheyenne and Ryan Lister and their children Emery and Stella; Aaron and Cassie Cross and their children Charlotte, Grace, Caleb, Annabelle, Josephine and Jonathan; Jason and Gretchen Cross and their son Jason, Jr.; Caitlin and Richard May and their children Lucy and Otto; Ashleigh Cross; Jacob Young and Grace Young.
Waiting to greet Andrew in heaven with hugs and smiles are his treasured grandparents Arthur and Alcyone Cross, and Ray Young.
Although gone from this earth too early, Andrew’s spirit will forever be with us when we see a big buck, chase a fast rabbit, hear the soft tread of a bear, sneak up on a gobbling turkey, wet a line with a new lure, and hear the rumble of an old tractor or dump truck. Rest easy, cherished son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend, and hero.
In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to the Morrill Fire Department in Andrew’s name.
There will be a public visitation on Thursday, May 21, 2026 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Riposta Funeral Home 182 Waldo Ave. Belfast. Shuttle service will be provided from Belfast Area High School at 25 Lion's Way in Belfast for the general public, and the first responders' shuttle will be from Troy Howard Middle School, Lincolnville Ave.
The family and community will gather for a memorial service at 1 p.m., Friday, May 22, 2026 at Veracity Chapel in Morrill.
