ROCKLAND — The Strand Theatre will screen the live theater capture of Hadestown: The Musical, Anaïs Mitchell's genre-defying musical theater. Showtimes are Friday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 15, at 8 p.m.; and Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m. 

"Winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, Hadestown: The Musical is captured here exactly as live audiences experienced it," said the Strand, in a news release.

Hadestown: The Musical blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a tale from ancient mythology. The musical follows two intertwining love stories: that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone, inviting audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. 

"As soon as we heard about this opportunity, we knew it belonged onscreen at the Strand," said Brita Wanger, film programmer for the Strand Theatre, in the news release. "Just as it did with Hamilton, onscreen live capture theater events like this allow audiences to experience a great show in a totally new, up-close way. There's not a bad seat in the house and the admission is the price of a movie ticket. I'm so thrilled that we can offer this opportunity to our theater- and music-loving audiences." 

Running time is 2 hours, 21 minutes.
