OWLS HEAD – A potential structure fire was quickly suppressed on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, thanks to neighbors on the Lighthouse Road, in Owls Head, who happened to look toward the neighboring property at just the right time.

A neighbor told Knox Regional Communications Center that after seeing smoke coming from the upper floors of the structure and a couple vehicles in the driveway, the neighbor went to the house, 36 Lighthouse Road, and pounded on the door. No one was home, and when Owls Head FD and its mutual aid arrived on scene following an approximate 12:40 p.m, notification of the fire call, they further learned that the house was under renovation.

Fire was found on more than one floors, however firefighters were quick to extinguish the visible flames.

A long hose was connected to a nearby fire hydrant, but not activated.

As of 2:15 p.m., all remaining mutual aid had been cleared from the scene.

The Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified.

Mutual aid came from the fire departments of Rockland, Rockport, Cushing, St. George, Thomaston, Warren and South Thomaston Fire and Ambulance. Central Maine Power cut electricity to the structure.
