Jean Kigel Studio + Gallery, 1396 Back Cove Road, celebrates her biggest show of the year, her 26th annual Eastern Views, during the second weekend of August, the 7th, 8th, and 9th, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. The public is invited to view her recent paintings, and enjoy the seaside gardens, refreshments, and conversations.

On preview are her prismatic seascapes, which she will also include in Craignair Gallery’s Clark Island show later this August. Visitors can take a dive under the surface of the sea to glimpse her oil paintings of horseshoe crabs, lobsters, oysters, shrimp, according to Kigel, in a news release. They can "stroll" through her colorful garden of watercolors and Asian brush paintings. And they can travel to the green, green hills of Ireland. Also on view will be unframed, hand-pulled gyotaku fish prints. In July the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset created a video of Kigel demonstrating this technique, which will be available online at www.maineartgalllerywiscasset.org.

Kigel’s annual show falls in conjunction with SOWA, the fifth annual South of Waldoboro open studios tour, featuring twelve artists, including her. Map available on www.sowamaine.org.

A member of the Union of Maine Visual Artists and the Sumi-e Society of America, Kigel has exhibited her work widely, including in the Art in the Embassies program in Jordan and in France, as well as in galleries in NYC, Maryland, Massachusetts, Vermont and Midcoast Maine.
