A bookstore manager I recently spoke to had some good stories about how authors pitch him books. He said for the most part, authors are conscientious and respectful...but there have been some wild cards!
One lady brought in all three books of her series and began to explain, page by page, to the manager behind the counter, what her plot was, in the hopes of having the store stock her books.
The fact is, he wasn't even the person who had the authority to purchase any books. But, she didn't know that and continue to sell her products while he waited patiently for her to finish.
Another author attended a well-known author's event at the store and monopolized the man's time (who was stuck behind the table, captive) with 20 questions on how the emerging author could get more recognition for his books.
There are the right ways and the wrong ways to approach bookstores when looking to have them stock your new book or pitch an event.
