Tour Roger Rittmaster’s restored native plant meadow in Camden
Wild Ones Midcoast Maine (the group that puts on the Camden Native Plant Sale) will tour Roger Rittmaster’s restored native plant meadow, Saturday, Oct. 4, between 2 and 4 p.m., at 42 William Glen Drive, in Camden.
Tour this local native plant meadow and learn about the process of removing invasives and encourage native plants to take their place.
"This is a great opportunity to see ecological restoration on a small scale, with huge impacts," said Wild Ones. "Over 900 species of insects and counting have been recorded here."
Dr. Roger Rittmaster is a retired endocrinologist and an avid nature photographer, focusing on plants, insects and underwater photography. He moved to Maine fourteen years ago to pursue his hobbies (nature photography, land conservation, woodworking and tennis). He loves to travel, especially to exotic places where he can photograph uncommon species. Shortly after moving to Maine, he authored the book, Butterflies Up Close – A Guide to Butterfly Photography. Rittmaster is a Maine Master Naturalist, former Maine Entomological Society Vice-President, former Chair of the Camden Conservation Commission and former Member of the Board of Coastal Mountains Land Trust.
"When you arrive, please park along one side of the road only," said Wild Ones.
