Rockland's Emergency Warming Center annual training, Nov. 8
Rockland's Emergency Warming Center is embarking on its third year of providing a safe and comfortable overnight space for all community members during the worst nights of this coming winter. We provide every guest with a quiet place to sleep, two warm meals, a warm shower, clean and comfortable bedding, and a variety of useful supplies to take with them upon leaving - and there are no barriers to entry.
We've opened our doors up at the Flanagan Community Center for 16 nights so far, serving 24 different guests for a total of 76 bed-nights so far. The most consistent feedback we receive from guests is the request to open more often. In order to do so, we will need more trained overnight staff.
Please consider signing up to be a part of this life-saving space. Our free annual half-day training for new staff will take place on Saturday, November 8th from 9am - 12pm at the Flanagan Community Center and is required for everyone interested in signing up to staff an overnight shift this winter. $18/hour compensation is available for all overnight shift staff, and there are also many other ways to volunteer your time in support of this project.
Rockland's EWC is fully funded by private donations, and grateful for the in-kind support of many partnering community organizations. Please consider donating if you have the means. Checks can be made out to the City of Rockland with "EWC" in the memo line and mailed to city hall. Thank you!
PS - To my knowledge, we are the only no-barrier overnight warming center in Midcoast Maine.
