Passenger succumbs to injuries at Ridge Road, Old Augusta Road crash

WARREN – A woman has succumbed at the scene of a motor vehicle crash, and her adult daughter has been transported to a major hospital following the crash at the intersection of Old Augusta Road and Ridge Road, in Warren, Sunday afternoon, Oct. 19, 2025. Warren Fire Department was notified of the crash at 2:56 p.m. through their electronic alert system.
Names are being withheld pending notification to deceased person's relatives. What is known is that the woman who succumbed was the passenger, and her daughter was the driver, of a blue 2012 Jeep Compass that went off the roadway and into some trees following impact with another vehicle. The driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle, a black 2010 Acura MDX, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
That intersection is a two-way stop, with operators stopping along Old Augusta Road, but not Ridge Road. According to Knox County Sheriff Patrick Polky, witnesses stated that the Jeep Compass had stopped at the Old Augusta Road stop sign before proceeding through in a westerly. The vehicle was reportedly in the intersection when the Acura MDX came into sight along Ridge Road (Rt. 235) from the south, hitting the Jeep and sending it spinning into the trees while the Acura spun around and came to a stop in the intersection.
According to Warren Fire Chief Greg Andrews, Warren firefighters used chainsaws to cut away tree limbs from around the Jeep before switching to cutters, splitters, and spreaders from their extrication toolbox to get to the women in the Jeep.
As Waldoboro EMS helped at the scene, some Waldoboro firefighters were requested to set up a landing zone at Medomak Valley High School to await LifeFlight of Maine. More Waldoboro firefighters were requested to block traffic at the Manktown Road intersection of Route 235.
Reconstructionists from the State Police responded to the scene to take measurements and coordinates, and the District Attorney’s Office has been notified. Both the DA’s Office and reconstruction response is required at every fatal crash, according to Polky. However, there are other situations that could possibly require a notification to those entities.
This Ridge Road and Old Augusta Road intersection has garnered a reputation by some locals as a common location for crashes, though Maine DOT has previously reduced the slope of the hill on Ridge Road that leads to the intersection from the south.
Hillside Towing towed the vehicles.
The intersection reopened at 3:54 p.m.
