Robert C. Heavisides, obituary

ROCKPORT — Robert C. Heavisides, 88, died peacefully, with loving family at his side, Monday, July 19, 2021 at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Augusta.

Born in Lebanon, New Hampshire, he was the son of Albert and Elizabeth Cameron Heavisides. Growing up in Connecticut, he graduated from Manchester High School. During his younger years, he participated in Track and Field and held the school pole vaulting record for many years. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts Troop #25 in Manchester, Connecticut. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving for two years during the Korean War Era.

Returning to the States, Bob attended the University of Hartford where he graduated with an associate’s degree in Business and Finance. While there, Bob helped established the first competitive Tennis Team. Prior to graduating, Bob married the love of his life, Sally Farley. Together they made their home in Connecticut where they raised two sons. For many years, Bob worked as an investment broker for UBS in Hartford, Connecticut and later relocated to Rockland, Maine where he eventually retired.

Throughout most of his life, Bob was a member of Friendship Lodge #145 A.F.& A.M. in Manchester, Connecticut and,Orient Lodge #15 of Thomaston, Maine. as well as a longtime Rotarian in both Connecticut and Maine, twice being named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a devoted and contributing member of the Kora Shrine Temple in Lewiston, Maine.

Together with his wife and family, Bob enjoyed traveling abroad, searching local flea markets and auctions for treasures and also volunteered at the Rockland Lighthouse Museum. He loved fishing, painting, vintage paperback westerns and never missed the opportunity to tell a good joke.

He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Mr. Heavisides is survived by his beloved wife, Sally Heavisides of Rockland; his sons, Andrew Heavisides and his wife Amy of Tolland, Connecticut, Stuart Heavisides of Rockport; four granddaughters, Kylie, Samantha, Natalie and Julia Rose Heavisides; as well as a brother, Laurence Heavisides of Vernon, Connecticut.

A masonic memorial service followed by military honors will be held Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 10 a.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
