Thursday, March 19, 2026 - 05:30 pm to 07:30 pmBOOTHBAY HARBOR — Community members are invited to explore meaningful volunteer opportunities supporting marine education and lighthouse preservation at an upcoming Volunteer Recruitment Fair hosted at the Maine State Aquarium.
The event, presented in partnership with the Keepers of Burnt Island Light, will take place Thursday, March 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Aquarium, located at 194 McKown Point Road in Boothbay Harbor.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn how volunteers contribute to the Aquarium’s educational programs at the Gulf of Maine Discovery Center and support the preservation and public engagement efforts on Burnt Island, home to one of Maine’s historic lighthouse stations. Volunteer roles include welcoming visitors, assisting with educational programs, tours, and helping strengthen connections between the community and Maine’s coastal heritage.
Admission to the Aquarium is free for Volunteer Fair attendees and refreshments will be served. Current volunteers who bring a friend, neighbor, or family member to learn about volunteer opportunities may enter both their name and their guest’s name in a drawing to win two tickets for a 2026 cruise to Burnt Island aboard Balmy Days Cruises, along with a 2026 Maine State Aquarium season pass.
"Volunteering offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marine education, conservation, and historic preservation while making a lasting impact on Maine’s coastal community," said Maine Department of Marine Resources, in a news release.
No RSVP is necessary.
