'Nature Poetry at Herring Gut' to celebrate Earth Month, National Poetry Month

Wednesday, April 08, 2026 - 03:00 pm to 07:00 pmPORT CLYDE — This April, in celebration of both Earth Month and National Poetry Month, Herring Gut Coastal Science Center invites the community to a special evening of creativity and connection with nature at Nature Poetry at Herring Gut.
Taking place on Wednesday, April 8, the event will feature two engaging opportunities for participants of all ages:
- Bookbinding Workshop (3:00–5:00 PM) – Participants will craft their own journals in a hands-on workshop led by Len Germinara of the Midcoast Poetry Journal. Registration is required.
- Poetry Reading (6:00–7:00 PM) – Enjoy an inspiring reading featuring a selection of poems from Herring Gut poets published in the Midcoast Poetry Journal, followed by an open mic. Attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite nature poems to share.
"This event highlights the powerful intersection of art and science, inviting the community to reflect on the natural world through poetry while celebrating the beauty of Maine’s coastal environment," said Herring Gut, in a news release.
“Nature Poetry at Herring Gut” is open to poets and nature lovers of all ages and experience levels.
