United Midcoast Charities to host hands-on beginner AI workshop for nonprofits
Event Date
Wednesday, June 10, 2026 - 09:00 am to 10:30 amUnited Midcoast Charities (UMC) will host its next LEARN@UMC workshop, “AI for Nonprofits: Building Confidence with the Basics,” on Wednesday, June 10, from 9 - 10:30 a.m., at the United Midcoast Charities office in Camden.
Designed for nonprofit staff and volunteers who are curious about artificial intelligence but unsure where to begin, this hands-on workshop will focus on practical, everyday uses for AI tools. Participants will receive real-time support from UMC staff as they explore ways AI can help streamline common nonprofit tasks such as drafting communications, organizing ideas, brainstorming content, and improving efficiency. Everything covered during the workshop can be done using the free versions of commonly available AI platforms, according to UMC, in a news release.
Unlike larger presentations focused on advanced AI strategies, this workshop is intentionally beginner-friendly and designed to meet participants where they are. Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops, questions, challenges, and examples from their own work. Throughout the session, UMC staff will work one-on-one with participants in real time, helping them experiment with AI tools, troubleshoot challenges, and build practical systems they can begin using immediately in their daily work.
The workshop builds on conversations sparked during UMC’s recent LEARN@UMC session, “AI 2.0: Moving from Prompts to Personalized Workflows,” presented by Patrick Gotham of CCS Fundraising. While that workshop explored more advanced AI workflow concepts, participants represented a wide range of experience levels, highlighting the need for additional foundational learning opportunities.
“As AI tools continue to evolve, many nonprofits are trying to figure out how these platforms can realistically support their work,” said Eileen McGuigan, UMC Development & Communications Coordinator. “This workshop is about making AI feel approachable, useful, and practical for organizations of all sizes.”
Current UMC grantees may attend free of charge. The cost for other nonprofit organizations is $20 per participant. Space is limited.
