Grand opening for Rockland Community and Resource Center
Event Date
Friday, May 29, 2026 - 10:00 am to 02:00 pmThe Rockland Community and Resource Center (CRC), located at the Flanagan Center, at 61 Limerock Street, invites the public to celebrate its Grand Opening and Open House on Friday, May 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Community members are invited to tour the space, meet volunteers, and learn about the programs and services the CRC will offer. A special presentation about the CRC will take place at noon. Free roundtrip door-to-door rides will be offered by Flagship Taxi for those age 65 and older.
Designed to be a welcoming and inclusive space for older adults, families, and neighbors throughout the community, the CRC was created to meet a growing need for a place where people of all ages can come together, according to a City of Rockland news release. The initiative is part of Rockland’s increasing emphasis on healthy aging and creating environments that support residents in remaining active, connected, and independent as they age.
“The CRC will be a place older residents and other community members know is there for them, whether they have signed up for a club or just want to hang out, grab some breakfast, and meet new people,” said Jan Heimlich, one of the founding members, in the news release.
In addition to offering a place for socialization and interesting programs, the CRC will include an “Info Hub” where visitors will be connected to local programs and services. “Many older residents have told us they feel disconnected from what’s going on in our community; the Info Hub will provide an easy way for them to access services and opportunities to stay engaged,” said Heimlich.
“This effort reflects the very best of Rockland. Neighbors coming together to build something that will have a lasting impact on our community,” said Rockland Mayor Adam Lachman. “I want to applaud the volunteers whose dedication and vision are making the Community and Resource Center a reality. Their work is one meaningful step in helping to ensure that Rockland remains a place where people can stay connected, supported, and engaged as they age.”
"The Rockland Community and Resource Center extends its gratitude to all who have supported this effort and invites everyone in the Rockland area to be part of this new chapter," said the City. "The opening marks an important step in strengthening community connection and support while advancing a shared commitment to healthy aging in Rockland."
