'Building a Mini Greenhouse' presentation at Merryspring
Event Date
Tuesday, June 09, 2026 - 12:00 pmJohn Fromer will lead an outdoor presentation on "Building a Mini Greenhouse" on Tuesday, June 9, at 12 p.m., at Merryspring Nature Center.
"With our Maine growing season being short, you can extend the season with cold frames or a greenhouse," said Merryspring, in a news release.
A mini-greenhouse can be used for hardening off seedlings or covering plants in the garden that are tender like tomatoes, peppers or squash.
Fromer will demonstrate how to build a mini-greenhouse you can make at home with minimal carpentry skills and at a low cost.
"Using wood, pvc pipe and remay row cover, you can assemble a mini-greenhouse that will be useful in the spring and fall," said Merryspring. "Depending on the thickness of the covering, you can protect plants up to 5 degrees on cold nights. It will be light enough to move and store for the off season."
Fromer, Merryspring’s program director, has been a Maine Master Gardener Volunteer for 25 years. He and his wife, Kathy, have grown a wide assortment of plants at their small farm.
This in-person talk is part of the Summer Talk Series co-sponsored by Camden Riverhouse Hotel. Attendance is free for members; $10 for non-members.
