'Glass, Poetry and Collaboration: The Art of Multi-Dimensional Connections' talk
Event Date
Thursday, June 11, 2026 - 05:00 pm to 06:30 pmCarter Jones Meyer and Carol Willette Bachofner will take the audience on a journey, June 11, 2026, from 5 - 6:30 p.m., at Jackson Memorial Library, in Tenants Harbor, into the worlds they have created through their respective art forms – glass and poetry – exploring the surprising multi-dimensional connections they’ve made along the way.
A retired academic, Carter Jones Meyer has been studying glassblowing at Waterfall Arts Glassworks in Belfast for the past four years. In 2025 she had her first glass show, “Evolution of a Glassblower,” at the Rockport Public Library. Before her retirement, she was a professor of history at Ramapo College of New Jersey, where she taught courses on the history of the American West, Native history, and late 19th and early 20th century American history. Among her post-retirement activities, she serves as a docent at the Farnsworth Art Museum and co-teaches a series of “Virtual Tours” of the Farnsworth’s collections for the University of Maine at Augusta Senior College.
Carol Willette Bachofner, a poet, photographer, and watercolorist, served as Poet Laureate of Rockland, Maine from 2012-2016. She is the author of seven books of poetry. Her 8th, Every Place I Look, women with embers at their feet, was released on November 19, 2025 from Main Street Rag. Her 9th, A Place for What’s Missing, is forthcoming in late 2026. Bachofner's poetry has appeared in numerous journals, as well as in the following anthologies: Dawnland Voices, An Anthology of Writings from Indigenous New England (University of Nebraska Press, 2013), Enough! (Littoral Books 2020) and Wait (Littoral Books 2021). Her recent work in multi-media poetry has changed the trajectory of her artistic approach to writing/creating.
“Poetry is a living thing, always evolving but never losing sight of its parentage, its legacy,” according to Bachofner, in a news release.
The 'Glass, Poetry and Collaboration: The Art of Multi-Dimensional Connections' event is free. Light refreshments will be served.
