Isobel M. Young, obituary
BELFAST — Isobel M. Young, 88, of Belfast, passed away after a brief illness at the home of her daughter on August 6, 2025. Isobel was born on February 11, 1937, in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In her youth, Isobel worked in her father's bookshop in Edinburgh, before beginning a career as a professional dancer, touring the United Kingdom in pantomime and variety shows as a "Logan Belle" with the Logan Family featuring Jimmy Logan. On a respite from touring, Isobel met and married Philip Young, choosing to leave the show business life and start a family. Isobel moved to the United States in 1977 with her husband and two children, eventually settling in Belfast, Maine.
Isobel quickly became well known in Belfast for her beautiful home garden.
Dancing was always in Isobel's heart and not long after settling in Maine she was able to combine the love of Scotland and dance through the Penobscot Scottish Country Dancers, who performed throughout Maine.
Isobel's greatest loves were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many dogs she had over the years. She will be fondly remembered for her kind and gentle nature, sense of humor, and deep love of history. Her favorite expression was "Count that day lost on which you do not laugh."
Isobel was predeceased by her parents, and her husband of 58 years, Philip.
Isobel is survived by her children, Wendy and her husband Leo, and Edward and his wife Betsy; grandchildren, Sean, and Heather and her husband Steven; and great-grandchildren, Simon and Louise.
Due to Isobel's wishes, there will be no public services. Donations may be made in her name to your local animal shelter.
