Event Date
Saturday, May 30, 2026 - 10:00 amHerring Gut Coastal Science Center and the St. George Conservation Commission invite community members to attend a free educational program focused on protecting local forests from the invasive Emerald Ash Borer beetle.
The program, part of Herring Gut’s Spring Fever Series, will take place Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10 a.m., at Fort Point Trail, 947 River Road, in St. George.
Participants will learn about ongoing conservation efforts to prevent the spread of Emerald Ash Borer, a destructive invasive insect threatening ash tree populations across Maine and beyond. The hands-on program will include guidance on how to identify ash trees, recognize signs of infestation, and help reduce the spread of invasive insects in local communities.
“The Emerald Ash Borer poses a serious threat to Maine’s forests and ecosystems,” said a Herring Gut news release. “This program gives residents practical tools to identify potential issues early and become part of the solution in protecting our local environment.”
The St. George Conservation Commission has been actively working to monitor and slow the spread of the invasive beetle in the region, and the program offers an opportunity for residents to learn directly from local conservation leaders.
The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is encouraged.
