Cynthia V. Merrifield, obituary
HOPE — Cynthia V. Merrifield, 68, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side, Monday, July 21, 2025 at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, following a second courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Oakland, California to Richard and Frances Lewis Schroeder, Cynthia grew up in Maryland where her father was stationed for his military career.
Moving to Burkeville, Maine with her family as a young woman, Cynthia met Doug Merrifield, a young man who offered to give her a ride home, after she got stranded in a snowstorm in 1970. The rest, as they say, is history. Cynthia and Doug were married on January 19, 1974. Together they have enjoyed 51 years of marriage.

For over 18 years, Cynthia worked as a payroll and accounts payable clerk for the Samoset Resort. Later she began work with Waldo General Hospital in a similar position, retiring from there in 2022.
Never one to be idle, Cynthia loved going on adventures, traveling, especially to Aruba, and golfing with her husband. Although she did not particularly the golfing part, just being with Doug, and driving the golf cart made her very happy.
Getting together with her special group of close friends was another favorite pastime. Her family was her number one priority, and she loved being with them. Whether attending the grandkids sporting events, or gatherings at the holidays, she was happiest with them at her side.
She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
Predeceased by her father; Cynthia is survived by her mother, Frances Schroeder of Rockland; her husband, Douglas Merrifield of Hope; her two sons, Alex Merrifield and his wife Dale, Matthew Merrifield all of Hope; her brother, John Schroeder of Rockland; her grandchildren, Gage Esancy, Carter Merrifield, Charlotte Merrifield, Landon Merrifield and Drake Merrifield; as well as niece Gretchen Ames; and a nephew, Jason Ames.
A celebration of Cynthias life will be held at a later date at the United Christian Church of Lincolnville.
