Belfast area students participate in Scuba Discovery Day
Several students from Belfast Area High School, BCOPE and the Waldo County Technical School recently participated in a Scuba Discovery Day at the BAHS pool. Scuba Instructors Adam and Nancy worked with nearly thirty students who wanted to experience scuba diving.
After basic instruction in the shallow end of the pool, the new divers swam underwater to the deep end where they practiced their skills and buoyancy and enjoyed blowing bubbles. Several participants expressed interest in wanting to further their Scuba skills with an Open Water Certification class.
The BMI plan is to offer a Scuba Discovery Day experience every fall and spring for interested students as part of their Floating Classroom initiative, to get young adults out, in, on, around and under the waters of Penobscot Bay with possible career or post-secondary education opportunities in a marine related field.
