Union Founders Day celebration: history, food, family fun, live music

Saturday, July 18, 2026 - 08:00 amUNION — The Union Historical Society invites residents and visitors to Union Founders Day on Saturday, July 18, 2026, for a full-day celebration of local history, community traditions, food, family activities, and live entertainment. Events will take place across town and on the Common, with highlights including morning paddling at Ayer Park, a free pancake breakfast, historic tours, an open house at Robbins House, a Makers Market, children’s games, demonstrations, a chicken barbecue, live music, and a free silent movie with piano accompaniment.
Morning and midday spotlights: The day begins with outdoor adventure and community connection, including a morning paddle at Ayer Park and a free pancake breakfast at the People’s United Methodist Church.
Festivities continue on the Common with activities for all ages, inviting families, neighbors, and visitors to enjoy games, demonstrations, local traditions, and time together in the heart of town.
Later in the day, the Union Masons’ Chicken BBQ adds a classic Founders Day favorite to the celebration, "bringing people together over a hearty community meal," said the Historical Society, in a news release.
Saturday night spotlight: The evening comes alive from 5 - 7p.m. on the West End of the Common with live music by The Blues Stompers, co-sponsored by Sterlingtown Public House. After the concert, the community is invited to continue the Saturday night tradition at the Old Town House with a free screening of Harold Lloyd’s Safety Last!, accompanied live on piano by Doug Protsik—"an inviting treat for movie lovers and anyone who enjoys a classic shared experience," said the Historical Society.
