Thomas W. Lloyd III, obituary
ROCKPORT — Thomas W. Lloyd III, 88, died peacefully surrounded by friends and family in Rockport, Maine, on November 29, 2025.
Tom was born on November 1, 1937, in New York City. He was the son of (Thomas) Wilson Lloyd Jr. and Eleanor Duane Whitney. He was predeceased by his sister Duane Patterson; his brother, Whitney Lloyd; and his life partner, Wickham Taylor.
Tom spent his adult life split between NYC and Port Clyde, Maine. He attended Groton, graduated from Harvard University, and earned an MBA from New York University. He enjoyed a long career in development, working with a number of institutions and universities, including Vassar, Long Island University, Outward Bound, Planned Parenthood, the Asia Society, and CARE.
He was an extremely gregarious man who loved making new friends. He and Wick enjoyed a full life in NYC, where they attended the philharmonic and the ballet, and frequented all the museums and parks the city has to offer. Tom was especially well-known for making new friends through the friendly dogs, or "beasts," he would meet on his daily walks.
Tom was first introduced to Maine while spending summers with his grandmother and cousins, where his uncle Jim taught him to sail. He loved bringing new and old friends out to sail the waters off the Port Clyde Harbor in his Cape Dory boat, the Loon.
He is survived by his sister Sally Henry; his daughter, Emily Duane Lloyd; and his twin granddaughters, Lilah Mary Dedlow and Phoebe Eleanor Dedlow. He is also survived by his nieces, Sarah Cherry and Marion Lloyd; and his nephews, Burns Patterson, Robert Lloyd, and Alex Lloyd.
A celebration of life will be held July 18, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Ocean View Grange, 435 Port Clyde Rd (Route 131). Please RSVP to emilyduanelloyd@gmail.com.
