A place of creation in Rockland
Ever had the urge to see where sparks of inspiration live? Inside the former Rockland High School on Lincoln Street is such a place. Rockland is changing. Over 30 studios in that former school could evaporate this Fall. Yup, the clock is ticking.
Big, light filled-windows, wooden floors, an historic theater, a large former gymnasium, could continue to gather dancers, musicians, painters, quilters, fiber artists, graphic designers, jewelers, photographers and the community. The scruffy look of creative spaces invites discovery and innovation. Little needs to be done to the building as it is to keep these creative individuals thriving. Creative sparks find ways to energize neglected big buildings like the Lincoln Street Center for the Arts to create community.
Imagine if the building was sold to the existing nonprofit, a group of Board members currently managing the building. At that point, investing in a new heating system would not need to wait for the existing landlord to meet that needed responsibility.
The exciting plans for collaboration with youth groups, museums, clubs, libraries, schools, performers, crafts people, farmers, and the entire community can happen in Phase Two.
Phase One is securing the building by purchasing it. Can you share your voice to support that this building ought to stay a place of creation?
If you or your organization or workplace have something to say in this support, please contact the Lincoln Street Center for the Arts Board Chair, Amy Files. She can tell you what is needed and share a detailed business plan to purchase the building before this October.
Yes, this is urgent.
