Merryspring talk: Environmental Impact of AI and Big Data
Paul Stancioff will lead an outdoor presentation on the Environmental Impact of AI and Big Data on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 12 p.m., at Merryspring Nature Center.
There has been much talk of late about the huge energy requirements of AI, crypto, and data centers. This presentation will look at how these requirements compare to other energy needs and how they relate more generally to the energy transition that the world is currently undergoing.
Paul Stancioff is a retired professor of physics at the University of Maine at Farmington. In recent years he and his wife, Cynthia, have published a series of articles about energy and climate.
This in-person talk is part of the Summer Talk Series co-sponsored by Reny’s – A Maine Adventure and Camden Riverhouse Hotel.
Attendance is free for members; $10 for non-members.
