Peter Jenks suspends run for Maine House District 43, says Rhiannon Hampson is a wonderful candidate for the seat
The following was issued by Peter Jenks, of Thomaston, May 17.
My name is Peter Jenks, and I am a candidate for House District 43 [Cushing, St. George, South Thomaston, Thomaston]. I made the decision to run in November of 2025 because no one had stepped up to run, the democratic majority in the house is very thin and I have a deep love and history with the people in this district.
When Rhiannon Hampson declared her candidacy in 2026, she entered the race as somewhat of a new person in the community. I have seen that in a small town having a local competition for a seat can be good for the candidates, but it can also be divisive in other ways. I cannot support this divisiveness; it is not conducive to building community.
I have met and heard Rhiannon and am convinced that she is a wonderful candidate and would serve well as our representative. For this reason, and for personal and family reasons I am suspending my campaign and putting my support behind her candidacy.
I believe we need a united front in this election, and it is important that we work together. This election is more than just about individuals, it is about our future in our state.
I am truly thankful to those who have offered their support for me. I am most appreciative.
Blessings,
Peter Jenks
