The redrawn parking lot, as proposed by the DOT. ROCKLAND — The Maine Dept. of Transportation is proposing the construction of a two-story parking garage on the site of the current parking lot at the Rockland ferry terminal, 517A Main Street.
In the proposal, the ground-level lot would consist of 210 spots, while the upper level would hold 211 spaces. Adding in other spots nearby, the total site would contain 476 spaces. A structure providing access to the second level is proposed at a measurement of 1,052 square feet. The parking lot is proposed at 65,448 square feet.
“Overall, as the project is proposed, the footprint of the parking lot is to stay the same,” said Trillium Engineering Group, in application paperwork submitted to the Rockland Planning Board. The Planning Board will review the application at its next meeting, Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026.
The proposal provides an estimated cost of $10,500,000 with an estimated completion duration of two years.
According to the ferry terminal website, parking currently operates as a credit card only, pay-in-lane automated lot. Parking may not be reserved and spaces are limited and are on a first come first serve basis, even for prepaid discount parking. The website further suggests alternate parking lots at certain Rockland Municipal Lots for overflow vehicles.
