UPDATE: Young adults, passengers suffer serious injuries when car bumps house in St. George
ST. GEORGE — Multiple ambulances were called to Spruce Head Road (Rte 73), in St. George, Friday night after a car full of teenagers and young adults appeared to have overshot a bend in the road and bumped into the corner of a house.
An ambulance each from St. George, South Thomaston, Thomaston, Rockland, and Warren transported patients to MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital with varying degrees of injuries and assessments. After bringing a patient to the hospital, at least one ambulance company returned to the scene to get another patient. Another occupant was picked up from the scene by a private vehicle.
At approximately 12:05 a.m., May 2, 2026, Knox Regional Communications Center received the report of a vehicle having hit a house at Hambone County Road, which is a small drive at the road’s bend between Spruce Head Road and Village Road.
St. George FD and ambulance, along with South Thomaston Ambulance, immediately responded to the call. Knox County Sheriff’s deputies responded as well, but with one deputy still minutes away, the other deputies much further out, and reports of the vehicle’s occupants fighting with each other, a Rockland officer was also requested.
According to the Sheriff's Office, later in the morning of May 2, the investigation is still active, but preliminary information indicates that the vehicle, a black 2013 Hyundai Sonata, was travelling south and failed to negotiate a sharp corner, left the roadway, and struck a house.
The operator, Eliza Luce, 20, of Union, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. One passenger, a juvenile 16, sustained life threatening injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a trauma center. Five passengers, Aiden Stalcup, 18, of South Thomaston, Brooklyn Hart, 18, of Belgrade, a juvenile 17, a juvenile 16, and a juvenile 15, sustained varying degrees of non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital. One passenger, Michael Sabins, 19, of Liberty, sustained minor injuries and was not transported.
"Vehicle speed and alcohol and drug consumption are believed to have contributed to the crash," according to Sheriff Patrick Polky.
"Emergency incidents like this require many resources and the expertise of multiple professionals," he continued. "We are fortunate to have had the assistance of the Knox County Communication Center, St. George Fire and Rescue, So. Thomaston Fire and Ambulance, Thomaston EMS, Rockland EMS, Warren Ambulance, Rockland PD, LifeFlight of Maine, and Automaster Towing."
The car was damaged and was hauled from the scene by AutoMaster Towing. The house sustained minimal damage in terms of structural integrity.
Deputies planned to follow up with the car's passengers at the hospital.
