Friendship man killed in July 15 Northport crash
NORTHPORT — One man lost his life, while another was seriously injured in a July 15 head-on collision, according to a July 20, media report from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement were alerted to the crash at approximately 11:48 a.m., following a report to Waldo County Regional Communication Center. Members of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, local area fire departments, and EMS responded to the scene.
The initial investigation indicates that a 2023 Dodge Promaster cargo van, operated by 77-year-old Robert Lary, of Friendship, was traveling south on Route 1, and failed to navigate a slight curve in the roadway, causing his vehicle to cross the centerline, according to the media release.
After crossing the center line, Lary’s vehicle collided with an oncoming 2023 Ford F350, which was hauling a dual axle trailer at the time.
Robert Lary died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.
Circumstances surrounding the contributing factors to the crash remain under investigation, however no criminal behavior is suspected.
Maine State Police assisted on scene with providing a forensic map and crash reconstruction.
