Linda Jane Knight, obituary
ROCKLAND — Linda Jane Knight, 75, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous 14-year battle with breast cancer, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
Born in Camden on March 28, 1950, she was the daughter of William Reed, Sr. and Helen (Flanders) Reed. She was educated locally and graduated from Rockland High School.
On December 31, 1967, Linda married her best friend, Wesley Knight, Sr. Together they shared many happy years, raising their family and always staying close.
Linda was a hard worker her entire life. For many years she was employed by Target Marketing, Navigator Motor Inn, and Port Clyde Canning Company. Most recently, she worked at Goodwill Industries for over five years, where she met two of her closest friends, Emmy Vanorse and Leanne Webb, both of whom stood by her side throughout her illness.
When not busy working, Linda enjoyed relaxing at home and watching the Red Sox on TV. Even when her husband thought she was sleeping, if he dared change the channel, she'd tell him to put the Sox back on! She also loved watching Life Below Zero.
She had a giving spirit and never missed a holiday or birthday, always sending cards with money to the grandkids. Christmas was marked by mountains of packages, ready to be sent off or opened at home around the tree.
Linda had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved bird, TJ, who never stopped talking, and the several dogs she owned over the years, each one named KeWe, after her two sons, Kevin and Wesley. Most recently, her dog Lilly became a constant companion.
Linda had a strong faith in God, and it helped carry her through her years of treatment. Her smile and fighting spirit will never be forgotten. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
She was predeceased by her parents, and her siblings, Robert Reed, Barbara Roberts, Edna Dean, Rosemarie Eaton, and Gidget Nelson.
Linda is survived by her beloved husband, Wesley H. Knight, Sr. of Rockland; her sons, Wesley Knight, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Florida, and Kevin Knight of Rockland; her daughter, Theresa Stanley and her husband Jack of Virginia; one brother, Alvin Goodrich of Rockland; eight grandchildren, Christina, Christopher, Jessica, Jimmy, Kaleb, Dakota, Mandy, and Missy; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Winslow-Holbrook-Merritt American Legion, Post No. 1, 335 Limerock Street, Rockland. No burial service will take place at this time.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, Rockland. To share a memory or condolence with Linda's family, please visit their Book of Memories at www.bchfh.com.
