On September 13, Maine Coast Heritage Trust and Maine Maritime Academy, with assistance from the Castine Fire Department and Maine Forest Service, will partner to improve the firebreak between Witherle Woods and the village of Castine. There will be approximately 200 individuals working with handtools, felling small trees, and moving brush along the carriage road that runs parallel to the town from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This event is not open to the public and to ensure the safety of the public entry will be limited during this time. On September 18, the Maine Forest Service will return to the work area to chip all of the brush, and the public should exercise caution in transiting the area.
