Megunticook Rowers to visit Midcoast middle schools, talk about joys of rowing
This winter, members of Megunticook Rowing and Coach Bob van Twyver are taking rowing machines (ergs) to local middle schools to give students a fun, hands-on introduction to the sport.
Students who are interested can join the Megunticook Rowing Club Team this coming spring in a program designed especially for young rowers who are just getting started. The program is built to help young athletes gain confidence, strength, and teamwork skills both on and off the water.
When on-the-water sessions resume in April, club rowers will train three afternoons a week in Lynx, the club’s new twin-hull sweep barge. This super-stable boat provides the platform for beginners to learn the fundamentals of rowing while building technique, endurance, and a love for time spent on the water.

Participants will focus on sweep rowing, with the goal of progressing from Lynx to a novice four or eight by the end of the season. The spring season culminates in the Dirigo Sprints, hosted by Megunticook Rowing in June.
Financial assistance is available, because everyone deserves a seat in the boat. The team has already visited St. George and the Riley School, with more visits planned:
Upcoming Middle School Visits:
• Appleton Village School, February 12 and 13
• Lincolnville Central School, March 9 & 10
