DAMARISCOTTA — The Medomak girls and boys soccer teams hit the road to Damariscotta on Monday, Sept. 23 to challenge Great Salt Bay in middle school soccer games.

Both area teams gave it their all with the girls fighting to a tie and the boys collecting a shutout victory.

Medomak will play its next game Thursday, Sept. 26 against Oceanside in Waldoboro.

Girls Soccer: Medomak 1, Great Salt Bay 1

With both teams fighting hard, the opening half ended without either team finding the back of the net.

Great Salt Bay netted its goal 10 minutes into the second half when Katherine McKenney scored.

With five minutes remaining in regulation, Kytana Williamson passed from the left of the field, to Sara Nelson in center. Nelson then passed to the right side of the field where Marissa O’Jala scored for Medomak.

After a pair of five minute overtime periods, the contest concluded at a 1-1 tie.

Great defense was played by Erica Waite in goal, Madison Boynton, Haley Puchalski, Eliza Luce, Kendra Glaude, and Devan Rainey, according to Medomak coach Andrea Williamson.

Great midfield was played by Ryleigh Rainey, Kytana Williamson, Sara Nelson, Kaylee Kurr, Marisa O'Jayla and great speed and determination by Haley Blake, according to Williamson.

“The team worked well together creating good passes and a fantastic ball game to watch,” said Williamson of her Riverhawks.

Boys Soccer: Medomak 4, Great Salt Bay 0

Medomak scored its first goal courtesy a cross by Slavick Moody, redirected into the goal by Will Rush.

Zan Nyguen added a goal later in the half to put the Riverhawks up 2-0 at the half.

“In the first half Medomak played very unselfish soccer distributing the ball very well and getting everyone included,” said Medomak coach Jackson Fortin. “With the success in the passing game it led to multiple shots in the first half.”

Vishal Mellor scored Medomak’s third goal courtesy a Moody corner.

Moody tallied the visitor’s final tally of the game.

Kolby Staples, Atticus Blue and Bruce Bossow played great in the midfield, according to Fortin.

“The strikers continued to get shots off in the second half, Liam Belyea up front worked hard to get shots off and nearly connected on multiple attempts,” said Fortin.

Defensively, Gavin White, Connor Leach, Dillon Harvey and Finn Kelly played well keeping the ball up front and rarely giving up any ground to the opposing offense, Fortin added.

In goal Kael Sidelinger played excellent making eight saves while only giving up one goal in traffic. Medomak next opponent is Oceanside at home on Thursday.
